Competition call for new firms

Start-up businesses in Blackpool are being urged to enter a national competition which could see them win £5,000, an iMac and more.
It is being run by the Government funded Start Up Loan Co which was set up to provide support for new entrepreneurs in the form of a repayable loan together with access to a business mentor, to help them make their business a success.
Any new business that received a start up loan can enter with the closing date September 1.
Entrants must show one or a combination of the following for a chance to be crowned Start Up of the Year both regionally and nationally.
If the business has overcome significant problems, experienced serious growth, used it’s mentor in a remarkable way, done something surprising to the business, had an innovative new idea.
Regional winners will get £500, runners-up will get a PR package from the competition’s partner PR, with the overall winner getting the £5,000 prize.
The winners will be announced and receive their prize at an exclusive lunch at the Mayor’s Office in London on November 4.
Geoff Reeves(pictured) who runs Blackpool Council’s Get Started programme said: “The StRt up Loans scheme has been a huge difference to people in Blackpool, with nearly 90 businesses started with the help from Get Started.
Hopefully, the winner will come from one of these excellent new business starts from Blackpool and I would encourage them to enter!”
Get Started can be contacted on 01253477147 or via the website at
