Piece of cake as Kelly gets started
Setting up a new business is a piece of cake.
That’s the message from local mum Kelly Ellison, who got started as an independent businesswoman by setting up a baking activity shop in the town centre.
Her new company, Cake Tin Delights, has been set up with the help from Blackpool Council’s Get Started team, which is part of the Start Up Lancashire project, supported by European Regional Development Fund.
The business, based on Topping Street, offer bespoke cakes, as well as holding special activities like cupcake parties, adult baking classes and a children’s summer club.
The mum of three has been baking cakes all her life, and thanks to Blackpool Council, is now hoping to cook up a storm with her new business.
Kelly said “It has been a tough journey, juggling family and setting a business up, however, with help, support and perhaps more importantly belief, from the Get Started Team, it has become a reality.
“We are doing really well, and have many bookings already”
Cllr Fred Jackson, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for urban regeneration, added: “It’s always great to see a new business get started.
“We helped to set up 100 businesses last year, and are well on our way to meeting that target again. That means more business activity in Blackpool, another boost to the local economy and hopefully helping to get more locals into jobs.
“I wish Kelly all the best with her new venture.”
The Council’s Get Started team can help with a number of advice courses to help people become their own boss, as well as providing support with accessing loans and grants.
